Margalit Ruth "Maggie" Gyllenhaal[a](/'dZIl@nho:l/;[4] born November 16, 1977)is an American actress and filmmaker. She belongs to the Gyllenhaal family and is the younger sister of actor Jake Gyllenhaal. Then, she appeared in Adaptation and Confessions of a Dangerous Mind in 2002, as well in Mona Lisa Smile (2003). Gyllenhaal was highly praised for her performance in the romantic comedy drama Secretary (2002 and 2006) as well as the action dramatic Sherrybaby (2006). Both of these films earned her nominations for the Golden Globe Award. After a string of films that had commercial success such as World Trade Center (2006) Gyllenhaal was praised for her performance in Rachel Dawes, a superhero film.
